Acne formation and various forms of Acne:

When Follicles (pores) get blocked and Sebum (oil) which drains to the surface gets blocked, in that condition bacteria starts to develop and to grow. If the trapped sebum and bacteria stay below the skin surface, a whitehead is formed which appear as tiny white spots or they may be very small to be visible. A blackhead is formed when the pore opens to the surface and the sebum containing the skin pigmentation melanin.Melanin oxidizes and turns into a brown or black color. Blackheads can last for a long time.

Papule:When there is a break in the follicular wall, white blood cells rush in and the pore becomes inflamed.

Pustule: It forms several days later when white blood cells make their way to the surface of the skin. This is called pimple also.

Nodules or cysts: An inflamed lesion can inflame the surrounding skin and sometimes engulfe neighboring follicles. These lesions are called Nodules or cysts. When a follicle breaks along the bottom causes a large inflamed bump that can be sore to the touch.

Milia: It is a tiny white bump that occur when skin cells get trapped in small pockets on the surface of the skin. It can occur in a new born baby across the nose and upper cheeks and can also occur on adult skin. In newborns the bumps usually disappear within a few weeks but in adults milia may persist indefinitely.
